This 15-month program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the cooperative experience. It is not designed for graduates. Work will be performed at a surface lignite coal mine.

Job Description:

Essential Duties :

- Assist in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment, devices, wiring, switchgear, and related mine equipment in the shop and field.
- Work with different voltage electrical systems.
- Work with trail cable and electrical boxes.
- Assist with MSHA electrical inspections on mine equipment.
- Operate support equipment.
- Perform duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and state and federal environmental regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

- Strong work ethic with effective communication skills and a creative and innovative attitude.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment, as well as individually with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of AC and DC circuits, electrical controls, and troubleshooting with an understanding of electrical circuit schematics.

Education and Training :

- Enrolled in an accredited electrical program and in good academic standing.
- Valid driver’s license.

ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS FOR POSITION:

- Occasionally (0-1/3 of workday): Sitting, climbing, crawling, and balancing (operating, entering, and exiting equipment, and working at low levels and on uneven terrain); pinching 15 lbs. (hand tools); lifting and carrying 35 lbs. (tools and tool bags); pushing and pulling 84 lbs. (equipment, materials, trail cable, and wiring); and reaching overhead.
- Frequently (1/3-2/3 of workday): Standing, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, and crouching; gripping 65 lbs. (hand tools); reaching at waist level; fine finger dexterity and repetitive motions (hand tools); speaking (radio and communication); and color vision (electrical color coding).
- Continually (2/3-3/3 of workday): Handling objects (tools, wire, etc.); and hearing, near and distance vision, and depth perception (communication and hazard recognition).

NOTE: This position requires ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, uneven terrain, elevated work areas, and confined workspaces. Employees must be able to safely operate company vehicles/equipment as required. Employees must be able to work while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection.

Hourly wage: $33.20 (hourly)
