Artificial Intelligence Intern

Job Description As the landscape of defense and systems engineering evolves, the integration of Artificial Intelligence and agentic workflows is critical to maintaining a competitive edge in program execution. BAE Systems is seeking a motivated and technically proficient Co-op Intern to join our team, focusing on the digital transformation of Systems Engineering (SE) and Test & Evaluation (T&E) business processes.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of implementing AI-driven solutions to optimize overall program business processes. You will work in a hybrid environment to develop intelligent agents and tools that automate manual workflows, analyze complex data sets, and enhance the decision-making capabilities of our engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and deploy AI-driven tools and agentic workflows to streamline Systems Engineering, Test & Evaluation, and Program Management processes
- Design and implement integrations between Large Language Models (LLMs) and internal business data using APIs
- Build and maintain scalable data structures and queries using databases to support AI applications
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Python, utilizing relevant libraries for data science and AI orchestration
- Collaborate with program task area leads to identify bottlenecks in business processes and propose AI-based remediations
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with core AI/ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, or LlamaIndex).
- Practical experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, and the development of agentic AI frameworks.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Foundational knowledge of databases, including NoSQL (MongoDB) and Relational (MySQL) databases.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications.
- Must be a US citizen
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering (SE) lifecycles or Test & Evaluation (T&E) methodologies.
- Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, or Weaviate) for RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) implementations.
- Prior experience working in a professional software development environment or previous internship in a defense/aerospace context.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $45553 - $63330

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
